This is a completelyhealthy Shintowakizashi(Mino den) in original in mint condition, and ofthe highestquality. I took over 200 photographs of this piece, in an attempt to capture its beauty. Everything is quite clearly shown, buta photograph, no matter how good it may be, can not captureits depthand its intangibile qualities. In hand, the koshirae is unique and magnificient, and there are no pictures orwords I can come up with to do it justice.Thelaquerwork is extraordinary.Jet black base of seemingly endless depth, with gold powder in clear lacquer overcoat, giving the design a somewhat nebulous appearance. Gorgeous work, exceptionally well done.Horn kojiri and koiguchi. Both the iron tsuba and the matched gold plated shakudo fuchi/kashira aresigned (translation pending). Gold dragon motif throughout. Tsuka is rocksolid w high quality same.Menuki are magnificient large gold dragons, matched to the fuchi kashira depicting large dragons in shakudo and gold. Quality copper habaki and seppa are of great value as well, being copper heavily foiled with gold.Blade is absolutely FLAWLESS, with a miniscule nick or two that would likely go un-noticed if not mentioned, and extremely minor surface stains. Measurementsare as follows...Nagasa:16 and 1/8", Motohaba 26mm, Motogasane 4mm, Sakihaba20mm Sakigasane 4mm, and the kissaki is 1"long.Kissaki is in excellent condition and boshi is complete, symmetrical,and strong (komaru). Nakago suriage,2 holes, mumei. Hamon isas would be expected in a blade forged in the mino den tradition or strong Mino influence. Sharp, peaked gunome withtogari-ba.
