Signed C1880 Russian Tula Imperial Samovar Turnip Shape W/ Under Tray No Reserve:
SIGNED C1880 RUSSIAN TULA IMPERIAL SAMOVAR TURNIP SHAPE W/ UNDER TRAY listing is for a circa 1880’s Russian Imperial-era samovar or as it translates "self-boiler" made in Tula. It measures 18 ½ inches or 47 cm high, and is 13 inches or 33 cm wide from handle to handle.
A samovar is a heated metal container traditionally used to heat and boil water in. Since the heated water is usually used for making tea, many samovars have an attachment on the tops of their lids to hold and heat a teapot filled with tea concentrate. The samovar is particularly well-suited to tea-drinking in a communal setting over a protracted period. The Russian expression "to have a sit by samovar" means to have a leisurely talk while drinking tea from samovar.
The samovar is made from brass. The body has outstanding design details; with an elaborately fluted Turnip shape body, decorated S-scroll handle pieces, and a pierced waist. All of this set atop a round footed base with pad feet. The base for the tea pot is also pierced and has its original cover for the chimney. It is marked on the lid “TULA” in Cyrillic, along with other marks, please see the photographs. The tray is oval and measures 18 inches or 46 cm wide from handle to handle. The tray is also similarly marked.
The condition over all is very good, with the exception of a few minor dents in the body. Please see the photographs. There is .
