Signed Hawkes Cut Glass Ferner, Constance Pattern For SaleThis beautiful cut glass ferner was made by T.G. Hawkes and Co. of Corning, New York. It is cut in Hawkes Constance pattern and is marked with the Hawkes trade mark on its bottom. A 1909 advertisement of a Hawkes Constance ferner is shown on page 148 of Spillman’s “The American Cut Glass Industry”. It is advertised as a holder for ferns or flowers.
This ferner measures 6-1/2 inches tall, 7-3/4 inches is diameter and weighs 4-1/4 pounds. It stands on 3 applied feet and is made of thick, sparkling clear glass. It is deeply cut in a pattern that features two bands of 28 finely cut hobstars in diamond fields separated by a band of notched prisms. It s in excellent condition with no chips or flea bites that I can find. It does have a few small scratches from use on the inside surface of its bottom. About half of these are shown in the last picture provided. This is a beautiful Hawkes ferner cut in an outstanding pattern. It will be a great addition to any collection. Satisfaction guaranteed.
