Signed Longhand Letter From Wwii General Anthony "nuts" Mcauliffe, Re: Bastogne For Sale
Signed Hand Written Letter from WWII General Anthony "Nuts" McAuliffe
Please look carefully at all of the photos, and read all of the following information before offerding
This letter was hand written and signed by General McAuliffe. As commander of the 101st Airborne troops, he is most famous for his one word reply to the German commander's surrender ultimatum during the Battle of the Bulge during WWII. The reply was "Nuts." This letter is only dated June 16th with no year but I'm guessing it was written about 1965, as it comes to me to sell from the collection of a military historian, who wrote to many WWII generals, asking strategy and history questions, all in the middle 1960's, mostly 1965. This letter offers some interesting insight in his own hand as to what things were like, and how things could have been different, as they held on waiting for Patton's Third army. This letter is written on both sides of one piece of stationary. The size of the letter is 7-1/4 x 10-1/2 inches, and it is boldly written in a script that is easy to read, in blue ball point pen. It had been in a frame, and is in very nice condition. This interesting and historical letter is obviously worth more than the very low starting offer, and is being sold with . Well packed between stiff boards, First Class mailing in the US will be @ $2.97 (exact shipping cost only).
