Museum Quality Meiji Japanese Satsuma 4 sided scene koro with reticulated lid.
Brand/Provenance: Satsuma, Japan.
Age: Meiji Period (1868 - 1912).
Size: The piece measures 7.5cm in width X 10cm in height.
Artist/signature: The piece is signed "Nikozan" to the base. I have attributed it to Yabu works.
Condition: The body is in Perfect 'mint' condition with NO chips, cracks, wear or restoration. The restoration has has a restoration to some of the reticulation. NO other issues.
Comments: A Museum Quality Meiji Japanese Satsuma, 4-sided koro. The piece is decorated with four hand painted scenes. These include;
- A Japanese god standingbehinda barrier with people in the foreground. The people are worshipping the god with younger children and a Bijin playing with a crane mobile.
- The next scene depicts magnificent wisteria with butterflies flying the in the foreground.
- The next scene depicts a type of Japanese ceremony. Thepeopleare segregated with a white lace curtain with the people inside resting on a floor mat. The people outside arecarrying various objects, probably preparing for some kind of ceremony.
- The final scene depicts a Rooster, Hen and their chicks feeding in the grasses with beautiful wild flowers surrounding.
