SMALL BLACK OR RED LONG LACQUER WARE
BUDDHIST MONK ALMS 3 SECTION RICE POT
Black or red lacquer, I have these in 3 different
sizes, 76cm...66cm...51cm, this being the biggest, lined in a
cinnabar red lacquer. I also have a number of vintage lacquer items up for
sale this week and am offering the best prices on , many sellers
are over pricing for these pieces due to their greed and are also
reproductions but I am offering
them at a fair price. See above. These pots are very sought after here
in Thailand and are used as everyday pieces by normal working class
people to monks, they are used to store rice that is distributed to
monks, this happens early every morning here in Thailand and other Asian
countries, the monks go out with their bowls and are given food. These
are pieces that have been used and not made for show or display.
YOU ARE offerDING ON ONE POT ONLY, PLEASE STATE WHAT
COLOR YOU NEED.
Objects in lacquer ware always
have played an important role in Burmese, Thai culture and society.
They were used for a wide range of purposes, ranging from
traditional ceremonies temples, weddings, at the King's court to
music and day to day life. Most Burmese lacquer ware objects dating
back to the 18th and 19th centuries can now be found in museums
around the world.
However, it is still possible
to find antique lacquer ware objects dating back to the end of the
19th century and the early part of the 20th century.
Lacquer ware takes its roots in China over hundreds
of years, and then developed in all the Southeast Asia. In Myanmar the
tree which one takes the resin is it Thit-si. These trees push naturally
in whole forests almost in all Myanmar in light altitude. One takes the
resin, a little like one does it with latex, by notches at the base of
the trunk on which one fixes small bowls in bamboo. The sap of the
lacquer tree has a very strong adhesive quality and a splendid
brilliance. It has many qualities as to make impermeable the objects
which it covers. It adheres on many surfaces, bamboo, woods, sheets of
palm tree, metal and leather. It resists the insects and guards on all
occasions its flexibility.
Due to the size, shape and being
slightly fragile, some pieces will
have to be specially wrapped, boxed
and insured for loss only which
shows in the shipping cost, I do not
intend to take any chances with
better safe than sorry, it would be
heart breaking to think it arrived
broken and deserves looking after.
