Small late 18th century linen and silk work sampler initialled CC/RT/MW etc - 1787. This little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The linen is stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns with a heart, crown and diamond motif at the end of the third row of letters. The bottom section of the linen is stitched with a row of five sets of family initials with the date of 1787 beneath, flanked by a floral motif and diamond with the initials IC in the bottom left corner and MC in the bottom right.The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age and the colours of the silks are very good. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when it was first stitched. Measures 8 1/4 \" x 9 3/4 \"
