Soo Line Armspear Railroad Lantern With Matching Tall Cast Globe Very Tinny:
SOO LINE ARMSPEAR RAILROAD LANTERN WITH MATCHING TALL CAST GLOBE VERY TINNY! Very nice tall globe railroad lantern. The frame is in excellent condition with a lot of original tinning and smooth metal. No major pitting issues to report, only a couple of minor dome dents, and someone that got heavy with the solder on the latch underneath the lid many years ago. All very minor and mentioned for accuracy. The frame has not been harshly or chemically cleaned and is a great example. Tall globe version manufactured by Armspear, and stamped on the shoulder in large letters, "Soo Line" for the Minneapolis, St. Paul & Sault Ste. Marie Railroad. The Soo was incorporated around 1883, lasting all the way until 1961, and had trackage from Chicago to North Dakota. This Armspear version is an older variation with the leaf lid latch and also has the earlier, R.R. Signal style twist off pot, but still has a globe seat for a Corning globe. The lantern comes with a beautiful and matching, clear cast globe that is embossed, "Soo Line" as well, with "Safety First" etched on the reverse below the Corning, "Cnx" logo. The globe is in very good shape with one small mold flaw that is raised. There are NO cracks, and hardly even any flea bites at all. Great globe with a very nice strike! The frame is complete with the twist off pot, burner, and wick included. There is one, old repair to the side of the fount. Excellent set that is shelf ready for display, and would make a great piece for the Soo Line collector or Midwestern lantern enthusiast!
