EXQUISITE MUSEUM QUALITY SATSUMA CABINET DISH / CHARGER
Meiji Period, 1800\'s
Finest hand painted gilding and detail. A masterpiece. This magnificent charger/wide bowl is one of the most outstanding and highly detailed examples of Satsuma that we have ever offered. Stunning raised giltwork with amazing, intricate detail. The interior features scores of finely hand painted sages, rakans (enlightened beings), immortals, and tiny temple children, all wearing highly detailed kimonos. Four sublime reserves depict the holy ones with scrolls, tiny golden shrines, fans, blossoming lotuses, braziers, teapots, gift packages, and numerous other detailed accoutrements. The design is both creatively artistic and finely technical, with perfectly rendered minute brocades surrounding the overlapping figural vignettes. The more one looks, the more reveals itself, with golden temples, red gates, beautiful landscape scenery, diminutive flowers, and floating butterflies. Too much to list. See photos for all of the exquisite detail. Finished with extraordinary, elaborate raised gilding which highlights minutely detailed and varied patterning of the kimonos, flowing draperies, landscape imagery, temple architecture, and shining haloes. In excellent antique condition with no chips or cracks. Must have taken numerous hours of concentrated hand painting to produce, then been carefully stored by the fortunate owners for over 100 years. This exceptional example of high Japanese ceramic art is of significant size, measuring approximately 11 3/4\" across and 2\" high. Signed with the Dai Nippon and Meigyokuzan giltmarks, as well as the Shimazu crest on the underside. A true masterwork representing the pinnacle of Japan\'s Meiji era Satsuma ware. An exquisite and rare centerpiece for the discriminating collector of fine Japanese antiques.

All reasonable offers carefully considered.
