Up for sale is a large and impressive Rexall Drugs tin friction powered truck and tandem trailer set made by SSS Shioji Toys of Japan in the early 1950's. Truck tractor represents a bull nose 1953 GMC c.o.e. (cab over engine) truck, with the GMC name prominently displayed on the grill.This 25" long large doubles set is extra clean and in very good 100% original condition with all parts intact. It has a strong friction motor as well.Theattractive blue and orange finish has a brilliant shine showing minor play wear with a few scratches. Two dings can be seen in the rear trailer with the largest in left rear side. Trailer roofs are ding free and smooth as glass. Flywheel friction motor runs like new; long, strong and smooth. Rubber tires are all flawless with no cracks or flat spots. Correct "con" gears and landing dolly are all intact. Fragile separate tabbed license plates are still firmly attached. These early SSS truck and trailers are fitted with the very realistic polished one piece metal "Bud" style wheels with simulated lug nuts, rather than typical tin hubcaps.Polished bare metal trim on truck all shines like chrome, withsome corrosion showing on windshield frame and a couple dings in the front bumper. This series of trucks were never made with plastic window "glass". All doors open easily and operate perfectly as they should. The toy is unique in that all the trailer wheel assemblies and tractor cab are meant to be placed inside trailers for storage.This magnificent vintage tinplate toy truck incomplete original condition would be a wonderful addition to any transportation or tin truck collection!
