This is for avery nice little George 3rd early sterling silver lock downtravelling inkwell from 1793. The inkwell is square in form with a circular opening with hinged lid and little crown shaped screw. The idea being that the lid could be screwed tightdown so ensuring no split ink when in transit. This is a really nice clean little example, it has survived really well, there are a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks on the back forLondon 1793 and the makers mark TW and under the lid there is the date letter again and the makers mark again. It is inexcellent condition with no damage to it anywhere, there are no dings or dents anywhere, no splits, holes or cracks and no repairs or restorations. It measures 40mm square on the base and stands 45mm tallwith the screw up and 36mm with it down.
