All brass microscope, German/French, circa 1865
An early example of the 'continental' design, made by one of the originators of the style which later gained almost universal acceptance.

Rack and pinion focusing with column top wheel fine focus.
Two eye pieces marked 2 & 4.
In a fitted wooden block are three button objectives, a three lens compound unit and three diaphragm stops.
Slide out sub stage plate with push fitting for stops or screw fitting button objective.
Plano-concave mirror mounted on a pivoted arm.
A pivoted arm bullseye condenser lens fits into a dovetail socket on the tube front.
Lead filled cast brass horseshoe base.
Good original lacquered and bronzed surfaces throughout.
All in good working order with clean optics, both mirrors fogged and spotted, only minor oxidation and wear to the brass surface, from age and use.
In fitted velvet and silk lined mahogany box, in very good sound condition with no splits or repairs.
