Stunning - Dixon & Sons 'hare And Pheasants' Brass Flask:
EXTRAORDINARY DIXON FLASK --
wonderful rifle flask, circa 1820s-1860, us civil war/pre-civil war era powder flask for rifle, by James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, England.
this piece measures approximately 9 3/4X 4 1/4 inches!
the design is unusually elaborate and beautiful. with a mass of detail to take in from this hand-crafted, obviously hand-etched repousse design.
simply gorgeous and remarkable! this flask I suspect could only have been custom-made for a gentleman of means.
condition overall quite excellent; a shallow 'hit' on reverse side; measuring nozzle seized as usual with these (tho un-'stickable' with some lubricant I reckon), but thumb lever moves an inch or so. there's some ancient polish in the recesses - remove if you like.
original dixon marks and strap rings and nozzle 'dram' marks present.honest wear, used but not abused.
and most important: the sensational, heavy-relief design is perfect!
in sum, an early/mid-19th century hunting accessory that, one imagines, would nicely grace any black powder rifle orshotgun display. it simply glows. truly, photographs hardly do it justice; this is an artwork.
please consult the pictures for details.
then note the extremely generous start price and short duration!$11
