A simply stunning necklace dating from the Victorian era and carved from natural Whitby jetThe length and quality of this piece merits a museum display case but I feel so excited to be able to offer it out to you here without reserveFabulously graphic and simple geometric chain links which sheen and reflect the light discreetlyCan be worn as an absolutely contemporary statement necklaceBut of course this was crafted in Whitby at the height of the fashion for jet jewellery in the late 1870sUnusually long at 50" (126cm), it is possible to loop this twice around the neck but without doubt the chain hanging past the waist is the most impactful way to wear itA forerunner of the flapper 1920s long necklace fashion, this necklace is entirely crafted from jet links
If you look very closely there are fractures in the occasional link as shown in some of the pictures, but nothing more than a crack and nothing more than you might expect 100 years after fashioning from the organic materialI have no reason at all to think that you could not wear this chain with care and confidenceThere are no losses or missing chunks - it is amazingly intact and without repair or replacement linkage
Very rare and very fabulous, this is without doubt an investment piece of costume jewellery.I have not been able to compare it to anything similar in length or completeness
