Stunning Huge 1940s Deco Wedgwood Etruria & Barlaston Pedestal Bowl Keith Murray For Sale
WELCOME! Thank you for checking out my sale......
Offered here is an important and stunning, vintage pedestal bowl made by Wedgwood.
Dating from around the mid 1940's this is a wonderful example of British design from the late art-deco period.
This piece was designed by Keith Murray (1892 - 1981) who is roundly regarded as one of the most influential ceramic designers of the time.
This bowl is manufactured from porcelain and, as the photos show, it is covered in a sumptuous, uniform, matt glaze. It was tricky to photograph and get a really accurate representation of colour, but I'd say the shot showing the underside and the base stamp is the most accurate - a lovely, subtle duck-egg blue with a hint of green in the glaze mix. Beautiful.
This is a very large and impressive piece with stacks of presence. It could hold its own in many an interior and would make a great centerpiece for the tabletop.
It measures a full 30cms (11 3/4 inches) across X 15cms (6 inches) high.
Superb. It's almost impossible to fault and is about as good as 1940's Wedgwood gets.
If I was being ultra critical I'd say that there is a minute scuff to the underside of the foot rim, but that really would be critical. It's as good as perfect and even the glaze is free from crazing.
