Original authentic stunning rare Indo Persian Islamic Indian Empire battle warrior shield Dhal .Entire surface is decorated with21 spikes fitted in bosses, this makes this shield unusual and rare. The entire surface of shield is beautifully hand chisel with damascened koftgari in floral and creeper Islamic quality design and pattern. It measures about 17" in diameter This shield is a first rate quality example of Islamic art , A unbelievable Islamic fine hand craftsmanship shield. The complete shield is covered with blackish patina and pitting. Made of heavy steel , hand hammered and hand chisel. Back of shield has 2 handles to hold and the cloth cushion which has been replaced at later date and is not of same age as of shield. The shield shows normal and slight ear commensurate with age, still the shield is in very good condition . This could make excellent addition to your collection or for perfect display or memorable gift , can also be used as beautiful wall hanging. I have been VERY PLEASED with the 3 items that I have purchased from you duringJuly-August 2010: (1) the "Pious Fish" (a very well-made, thatShia Muslims used during their commemoration of "Ashura" and the martyrdom of their Imam Hussain -- this is a truly remarkable, religiousitem that belongs in a serious cultural museum.); (2) the "Lilal Helmet" an Indo-Persian helmet with the very scarce 'Lilal' or crescent-moon/star atop the helmet --which is surprisingly very heavy (would very wellprotect the head during battle) and which has nicely engraved Arabic-text protection-blessing prayers -- one of the better helmets that I have seen offered; and (3) the "Lilal Shield", which is a larger-than-usual size, heavy (indicating goodsound quality -- not a cheap, item), with incredibly detailed "hand-chiseling" of Arabic text[whereby the metal surrounding the letters was 'beaten down' to all the text to appear 'up raised'] in numerous placesatop the shield, andforimages it has 4 very detailed "Lilal" or'crescent-moon with star' designs atop the shield,[all of this hand chiseling of letters and artwork indicates a very long and arduous work -- not something that was easily 'mass-produced' just for the tourist trade].
I am MOST PLEASED withyour quick email replies to my inquiries about these items, and your FINE PACKAGING of ensuring that a lot of wrapping materials were used to protect these items during shipment.
