Robert Allison, influenced by Alexander Ritchie of IONA
This is a lovely rare VINTAGE solid sterling silver coffee spoon, which was made in Iona, Scotland in 1959 byRobert Allison - Robert Allison adapted designs by the illustrious Scottish silversmith, Alexander Ritchie of Iona, Scotland in the late 1940's and early 1950's - see www.alexander-ritchie.co.uk. It is in an unusual pattern with stylised motifs and a THISTLE to the finial. It measures 3 1/4" long and is 3/4" across its bowl. It weighs7.0 grams - almost 1/4 troy oz. It is NOT engraved.
It is in very good condition with much less than the usual surface scratching that you'd expect for its age and NO splits or dents - without the usual dimpling to the bowl and with none of the usual wear to the leading edge - SUPERB. It is hallmarked on the rear of the bowl with R.A, thistle (Scottish sterling silver assay marks),triple-towered castle,D showing that it was hallmarked in Edinburgh in 1959. I have shown the hallmark so that you can make up your own mind. A rare Iona coffee spoon in superb condition afteralmost 55 years.
