FRENCH SEVRES HARD PASTE PLATE
NAPOLEONIC STYLE
A stunning plate decorated in dark Prussian/Navy blue with a spider's web effect in the centre. The main decoration is a large gilded embellished N for Napoleon and a crown (tiny area of rubbing on the crown) The rim is gilded and there is an entwined ivy leaf garland.
Condition: Excellent apart from rubbing already mentioned; porcelain is sound.
Mark: as you can see in the photo, the mark on the baseis painted in goldwith the same N mark and DORE A SEVRES and a number 53. In the centre is a small oval shape with N 68 in black and THIS IS SCRATCHED OVER. Does this mean it was a second? or decorated out of the factory? I have put the date at from 1853 - 1868 as I know you go by the number on the base, but not sure which one!

LATER: I have been advised by an American gentleman that the 53 mark is a spurious one and that the plate would have been made in 1868 and probably outside decorated. You can make your own mind up!
