This large, English hallmarked silver vanity/ hand mirror is decorated with a stunning, repousse, Art Nouveau design of a gowned maiden with flowing hair. She is reminiscent of similar Arts & Crafts representations of women by the Scottish ‘Glasgow Four’, (Margaret MacDonald, Francis & Herbert MacNair, and Rennie Mackintosh). This central figure is surrounded by sinuous floral designs, which extend over the entire surface of the silver back, and the handle, both back and front.

Marked with a Registered number, ‘399451’, and a Chester hallmark for 1903. Makers mark ‘R.P’ (Robert Pringle & Sons).

Offered in good condition, with some minor blemishes: some minor, age-related, shallow dents around the edges, and on the raised surface of the face. Possible thin split on the edge of two raised areas near the registered number, and on the nose, although it is hard to see if these are just little dents with tarnish. (I have examined them with an eyeglass, and think they are small dents, but will err on the side of caution, and describe as splits!) The mirror is bevelled. I think the twisted wire which holds it has been reset at some time in the past…small residue of glue around the edges of the mirror. Please see the detailed photos….. these are minor issues which I must state, but I am sure you will not be disappointed, this mirror is spectacular, and fully functional.
