Stylish Arts And Crafts Art Nouveau Frame For Sale
This Arts and Crafts/Art Nouveau frame measures approximately 25cms in height and 17.5cms at its widest point. It is cast rather than stamped and I'm sorry but I don't have any idea what the metal is, but it does appear to be bronze-like, or maybe a very matt finished copper. It was purchased by my husband's parents on one of their frequent trips to Camden Passage or Portobello Road during the sixties and seventies, and has never been used but stored in a box ever since.
There's no maker's mark anywhere, and the frame has glass in it but it's loose and has small chips along the edges - not a huge job to get a new piece cut. The real defects are that the arm to prop the frame up is missing, and also that two of the four welds on the back plate have split, but the backplate isn't going anywhere and seems to be held quite firmly in place. So the frame could do with some attention (and a good polish) but it's a nice frame and we would use it if we had room! Do have a careful look at all my photographs (you may need to allow time for these to load) to satisfy yourself on condition, and don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. Please be aware that I'm not a professional seller/dealer so I don't offer returns or any sort of guarantees on my sale items.
