Superb 19thc Heraldic Oak Carving With Lions Guarding Crest For Sale
This is asuperb 19thcheraldic oak carving with Latin text carved.
A fine early panel. The attention to detail is really excellent and all carving is in deep relief. To the centre is a crest decorated with keys and with winged gryphons. Above the crest is a crown with plumed feathers over. Guarding the crest at either side are a pair of very fine lions wearing collars and chains. Latin text Vinctus Non Victus translates as 'Not a prisoner beaten.'
Dimensions:9" x 8".
Condition: There is an age crack down length at one side as image shows and a bit of damage to the mane of one lion.
