Superb Antique Japanese Makie Lacquer & Wooden Box W Nashiji Interior & Bottom For SaleFor your consideration we have here a fabulous early 1900s Japanese Makie lacquer lidded wood box raised on four shaped corner feet featuring a ShiShi lion or Foo Dog in a central roundel on the top with a nashiji lacquer interior and underside. This great lacquer box was produced in Japan sometime around the c1930s to c1940s is my best guess and is of a very high quality with gorgeous gold makie work. The top lid has a large central roundel depicting a ShiShi lion executed in relief work or takamakie on rockery with a flower in his mouth from a group of flowers to the right having a serene waterfall in the background coming through a mountainous scene. Outside the central roundel and going over the edges halfway down the sides is a display of open flower heads, delicate tendrils and leaves performed in a tu tone gold makie lacquer with the balance of the sides in a black lacquer. The inside lid as you will see has an amazing flower branch section of the very finest quality workmanship and details in raised takamakie and hiramakie treatments with several gold tones and light bronze with the total ground of a superb goldsprinkled or nashiji lacquer. Both inside upper and lower lippings are finished in a treatment of tiny gold dots with the inside bottom again performed in a gold nashiji lacquer with the underside finished in the same as well as the four shaped corner feet. Condition is excellenthaving only a very small amount of suface wear with little rubbing and a bit of scuffing to the edges of the inner lippings from taking on and off the lid otherwise a very well kept box. Sizes: Width 11-1/4" x Depth 10-1/2" x Height 4-3/4". A truly worthy Japanese lacquer box for both the serious and beginner's collection so offer to win!
