This sale is for an fantastic quality Japanese bronze most likely dating to the Meiji period. The bronze is large in size measuring 13 inches across and stands almost 10 inches tall. The sculpture depicts an elder seated with a young child in his lap who is teaching how to play the instrument they are holding. The back of the piece is signed by the artist. It is an extremely heavy piece and has to stand well over 20 pounds. Overall condition is very good, there appears to be a loss at the end of the instrument and there is a small loss to part of one string. Just a wonderful early example of Japanese bronze work.
