Description AhandsomeEnglish antique Victoriansolid sterling silver presentation snuff box by the silversmiths Stokes & Ireland Ltd, in lovely conditionand with full English silver hallmarks for Birmingham 1889.Excellent quality example with a hinged silver lid and with a beautiful original presentation inscription on thetop which reads, "Presented to MrJas Alexander, Auchengown, Lochwinnoch, by a few friends on the occasion of his leaving thedistrict 28thJan 1892". Partially gilt-lined interior and a nice substantial box, weighs41 grams.
Measurements Good size, measures approx2.5 inches (64mm)x 1.7 inches (43mm) and is 0.6 inches (15mm)deep.
Date Antique Victorian sterling silver with a full set of English silver hallmarks forBirmingham 1889(date letter "p"). Clear matching hallmarks on both box and lid. Includes the sovereigns duty stamp of Queen Victoria.
Maker Silversmiths initials "S & I", (Stokes & Ireland Ltd).
ConditionLovely condition, no splits or cracks, no solder repairs, definitely no wear/pin holes, and no nasty knocks or dents either,areallynice genuine 19thCenturyexample. The silver lid hinge works perfectly and the lid opens and closes tightly.Originalpartially gildedinterior, some gilding wear and with snuff residue in the corners, would no doubt clean up better. Beautiful original engraved presentation inscription.
