Superb German Art Deco Wellner Alpacca Silver Plate Coffee Pot A.g.f.a. Kasino For Sale
Here we have a superb German Art Deco style Coffee Pot produced by the Wellner factory.
Wellner produced all manner of metal ware using a material they called Alpacca. They produced items for Hotels, ships and the German Third Reich! Often, as in this example they then Silver Plated them. Apparently Alpacca was some form of nickel derivative.
This piece is inscribed A.G.F.A. Kasino. I have not thus far been able to find out what the initials stand for.
To the base it is stamped Wellner 140CL (presumably indicating a 1.4 litre capacity) with what looks like the number "34" in a small circle. To the inner rim is a number 5 and a small symbol.
I have found a Third Reich era catalogue and this piece would appear to have been produced in the 1930's but could be any time up until 1958 when the company changed it's name. I would say this is pre 1945, however, cannot find when this piece was pulled from production, so cannot guarantee it.
This item has been thoroughly cleaned, professionally and sympathetically by my Mother, a retired antique restorer and jeweller and is very clean and could be used and / or displayed.
There are two miniscule dings to the handle. The spout, lid and hinge are all good, though there is understandably some wear to the plate within the spout. Otherwise, there is just the usual scratches etc. that you would usually expect to see with a practical piece of this age.
Approximately 22 cms high by 26.5 cms from spout to handle and weighing in at 1.232 grammes, this is a stylish and very well made piece, with a history you may be able to uncover?
