Superb Heavy Solid 18k Gold Freesprung Pocket Watch Hallmarked London 1874 For Sale
SUPERB HEAVY SOLID 18K GOLD FREESPRUNG POCKET WATCH HALLMARKED LONDON 1874
This is a really impressive looking man's Freesprung pocket watch, which was made by R. Heitzman, Cardiff and bears solid 18K gold hallmarks for London 1874. The case houses a beautifully engineered 19-Jewel pendant wound and pin-set movement and is fronted by a beautiful white porcelain dial. It has just been serviced, is running strongly and keeping excellent time. The case dimensions are 53.2mm (2.1) in diameter by 16.3mm (0.64) deep by 74mm (2.9") high (from the base of the case to the top of the bow). The total weight is a substantial 130 grams. This high quality vintage timepiece is being offered with a very reasonable buy it now price of £2649, so if you like it, dont miss out!
The case has a double hinged back with clip on bezel. Inside the back and dust covers, it bears solid 18K gold hallmarks for London 1874. The serial number of 62122 matches the movement, showing that it is all-original. The dust cover has an amazingly detailed engraving of a Victorian gentleman - possibly the original owner? Please refer to the high resolution pictures. The back is beautifully initialled with a set of highly ornate Gothic initials. All the covers snap securely shut, the crown still shows some definition and the hallmarked bow is firm. I can see a small edge knock near 7 o'clock but there are no other marks of any significance.
The pendant wound & pin set, movement is marked, R. Heitzman, Cardiff. The specification is impressive and it has capped jewels on the escapement lever and escape wheel pivots, giving a total jewel count of 19. It features screwed gold jewel settings and a large diamond endstone. Like all freesprung movements, regulation is achieved by adjustment of the screws on the balance wheel rim. The screws on this movement are particularly large and made of solid gold. The movement shows only minor signs of aging and has just one small scratch on the balance cock. It has just been serviced, is running strongly and keeping excellent time.
THE DIAL, HANDS & CRYSTAL
The white single sunk porcelain dial, with sub seconds, has bold back Roman hour numerals. It looks in mint condition with no chips or hairlines. The blued steel hands show only tiny traces of tarnishing and the glass crystal looks mint.
This is a high pedigree, vintage timepiece, from the Victorian era. Freesprung pocket watches are quite scarce and this is a particularly impressive example. It is strong in all departments a heavy 18K gold case with the amazing dust cover engraving and classy set of initials on the back, a beautifully engineered freesprung movement and a great dial/hands/crystal combination. Not only does it look great, it is running sweetly and keeping excellent time, so you can buy with confidence. This high quality vintage timepiece is being offered with a very reasonable buy it now price of £2649, so if you like it, dont miss out!
