Superb Stunning Boxed Camera Lucida with ornateley engraved on the clamp the makers name"H. Comyns Kings Road Chelsea". Henry Comyns worked in Chelsea between 1830-1845. The Instrument is made of Gilt Brass which is in good condition and the glass lens are all in good condition being free from chips or scratches. The instrument is telescopic with a Two Drawer Extension and on the body of the top Drawer there are Graduation Lines starting with a "D" and then six lines numbered from 7 - 2. These instruments were mostly used by Artists to view from one Picture Subject and then to impose the view down onto a flat Paper. The Drawers all extend well and the hinges and screws all working perfectly. The Box is I believe original with the instrument being a good tight fit and the outside finished in a Red Tooled Leather which has the normal wear from age and use. The instrument measures 21.5cmslong closed x 45cms long extended. This is one of the best examples I have seen and is a Beautiful Item to use or to add to any Fine collection.
