I HAVE SETS OF MY FEVES DISPLAYED IN 4 MUSEUMS.
This is what the curator of a museum who recently purchased my feves to display said. “I’m fascinated by the dozens of ceramic fèves from France,” he said. “For more than a hundred years, a small ceramic figure called a fève has been secretly placed in the ‘Kings’ Cake’ on Epiphany, a holiday celebrated to commemorate the arrival of the wise men (“three kings”) at Bethlehem. The lucky one who gets the fève in his or her slice is pronounced king or queen for the day and gets to wear a paper crown.” The curator said the fève originally represented one of the Nativity’s central figures of baby Jesus, Mary or Joseph. As time went on, however, all the characters in a typical French village were made to be included in the scene. “Everyone from the mayor to the fishmonger turns out for the Christmas miracle,” he said.
I HAVE A HUGE COLLECTION OF FEVES FROM OVER22 YEARS OF COLLECTING SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE SPECIFIC OCCUPATIONS OR TRADES OR CHARACTERS PLEASE ASK. I CAN SUPPLY DETAILED INFORMATION OR THE HISTORY OF THESE. THE COLOURS & DETAIL ARE ACTUALLY MUCH NICER THAN THE PICTURE SHOWS.IDEAL FOR DOLLS HOUSES Christmas CRACKERS ADVENT CALENDAR CRAFTMAKING PAPER CRAFT CARD MAKING SCRAP BOOKING.
THESE SMALL CERAMIC FIGURES CALLED FEVES, THE FRENCH WORD FOR BROAD BEAN (AS THE DRIED VARIETY OF THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL FEVE), ARE BAKED INSIDE A FRANGIPAN PIE (GALLETTE DE ROI), TRADITIONALLY EATEN ON THE EPIPHANY, 6TH. JANUARY, THE DAY WHICH CELEBRATES THE ARRIVAL OF THE THREE KINGS TO THE BIRTHPLACE OF JESUS. THE PERSON WHO RECEIVES THE FEVE IN THEIR PORTION IS 'KING' FOR THE DAY AND GETS TO WEAR THE PAPER CROWN WHICH COMES WITH THE PIE. ORIGINALLY THESE LITTLE FIGURES WERE ALWAYS RELIGIOUS, THE ULTIMATE AIM BEING TO COLLECT A WHOLE NATIVITY SCENE INCLUDING VISITING VILLAGERS, OVER THE YEARS, AND THEN HANDING DOWN THE COMPLETED SET FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION. NOWADAYS THEY TEND TO HAVE THEMED SETS, I.E. HARRY POTTER, NARNIA ETC. WHICH THE CHILDREN STILL AVIDLY COLLECT IN ORDER TO HAVE THE FULL SET (ALTHOUGH NOW BEING MORE AFFLUENT THEY DON'T HAVE TO WAIT FOR YEARS AS THEY WILL HAVE SEVERAL PIES AROUND THE EPIPHANY). BUT I THINK YOU'LL AGREE WITH ME THAT THESE NAIVE LITTLE SANTONS ARE SO MUCH NICER AND WILL BE A UNIQUE ADDITION TO ANY HOME'S 'DECOR DE NOEL'. I WILL INCLUDE A FREE FEVE RELATED GIFT TO THE WINNING buyer.
