Sauk-fox, Mesquakie Puzzle Pipe Stem Late 1800s Pipe Bowl Late 1700s For Sale
here we have what I believe to be Sauk,Fox puzzle stem from the late 1800s. All the designs you see on the stem I've seen on Mesquakie items, but my brain is a bit rusty and I cant pin point the books right now. The pipe stem shows nice usage wear and patina on it.the stem has a couple age cracks in it that are very small. it's obvious that they stopped using it because it got stopped up and you can't pull through it anymore. The pipe bowl is a classic calumet shape that you find in the great lakes to Eastern plains area between the late 1700s to early 1800s period. It has a 4 pointed star carved into the top of the (disk) where you light it. We have aprox half a cent. plus seperating the making of these two pieces so I would call them a marriage. I believe the pipe originally came out of Oklahoma, but that really doesn't mean a lot. This is a very rare chance for you to buy a museum quality piece. Matter of fact the only ones I've seen were in museums or very old collections. In the meanwhile I've seen dozens of fakes. this isn't one of the fakes though. pipe and stem 26.5 in long pipe bowl 2 3/4in tall 21/4width 4 1/4 lenth top of the bowl is 1.5 across where the star is stem 2 ft long 2 1/4 wide 1/4 tall
