This sale features a WW1 Era stuffed character doll in the likeness of a WW1 French soldier. This hard to find doll stands 14 inches tall and is jointed at the shoulders.
There are no markings on this doll to indicate the maker, but sure looks like a Steiff character doll to me. The doll is stuffed with excelsior (straw) and has cotton clothes. There are several areas where one can see that improper storage has let the moths eat at the clothes of the soldier.There is also an even, overall darkening from age.
Maybe not the best example of one of these dolls, but there are not a whole lot of these out there either.
