Here is a pretty scarce Waltham Model 1883 Special Railroad King hunter movement (lever set) recased into an open face Case. The serial number is 3740457, which puts it about the summer of 1889. It has 15j and is marked adjusted. It is listed as a grade 25. The watch is working and running about 2 minutes slow per day. Both the numbers on the balance and cock match those on the movement. I was checking the mainspring and noted that the barrel is numbered and these numbers match the movement also!
Now for the issues: The movement has fingerprints etched into it and nothing can be done about that. The dial has moderate damage and many hairlines, but it is the right dial for this watch and these are very difficult to replace. The hands were incorrect and all were damaged so I replaced them with a matching set of hands. I do not think the new set is the right style, but they were all I had. The case is worn with lots of brassing on the case band on the bottom. Still an interesting Private Label for those who enjoy them, and need to fill a hole in their collection.
