Scottish Celtic Sgian-dubh Sterling Silver 1959 Te Ebbutt Hose Kilt Dirk Dagger For Sale
Vintage modern sgian-dubh Dirk or black (hidden) dagger, kilt or hose knife with hallmarked sterlingsilver mounts onthe black leather coveredscabbard. Hallmarked with thistle (sterling silver Scotland before 1974) a castle (Edinburgh) and eigher a "D" in a square with clipped corners, date code1959,or aB1957and a maker mark "T.E" for Thomas Kerr Ebbutt Manufacturing jeweler, St David's Square, Edinburgh, wellknown maker of Highland dress accessories. The silver wastarnished, and we polished it. The blade is marked "stainless steel" a modern blade, has been lightly sharpened, no pits,the blade does havesome signs of use. Scalloped on the back of the blade. The handleappears to bemolded andnot carved,a material that appears to be dark horn, there is a small round mold release mark shown in a photo below,with a Celtic knot design that has a 'carved' look.The handle appears to be a natural material like pressed horn, and not resin or plastic. There is a facetedamber 'stone'which is either glass or possibly a cairngorm, measures app 1" long by 3/8" across at the center point,on top of the pommel or handle, has not been tested. The handle where it joins the blade is packed with red felt or similar, shown in a photo. This kilt or hose dirkmeasures 7-1/2" in the sheath,the knife is 6-7/8" long, witha blade portion3-5/8" long. Shows the mold release mark, and the surface shows natural material of the surface, which makes me think this is pressed or formed horn, and not a molded plastic. It is an attractive effect.
