This lot is for a superb Gents Seiko Automatic Scuba Diver\'s Watch. The model is the 6309-7290 F1, dating originally from September 1985.In excellent pre-owned condition, with a custom new \'Snoopy\' Dial in a distinctive Orange, a new matching Chapter Ring, and new custom \'6309\' Hands. I\'ve fitted a brand new scratch-resistant Mineral Crystal. The watch also has a very smart new ceramic \'Submariner\' bezel insert, also in the standout Orange, and a new aftermarket Seiko \'Accordion\' rubber diver\'s strap. This classic Scuba Diver\'s watch has been professionally Serviced and regulated, and is running beautifully, keeping accurate time. The large dual-finish steel Case has been expertly polished and rebrushed, and is in excellent condition. The watch also has a \'Quickset\' Day & Date window. I\'ve upgraded the luminous treatment to the hands and markers (and the excellent Bezel Insert is luminous too). I\'ll also provide a full Seiko instruction manual (in a downloadable/printable PDF file).

Dial/HandsNew, custom Scuba Diver\'s Dial, in the classic \'6309\' style,in a warm Orange colour, andfeaturing a cheerful representation of the world\'s coolest Beagle - in this case, he\'s watching the world go by (or perhaps having a snooze), in his favourite position, perched on top of his doghouse...
The Dial is signed \'SEIKO, Automatic\' to the right of centre, \'Japan, 6309, Suwa symbol, 747X R\' is at six o\'clock. Baton markers instead of numbers, larger at 6 and 9, and a larger inverted Arrowhead at 12, all with an applied luminous finish. There\'s a \'Quickset\' Day & Date window at 3 o\'clock (the Calendar can be adjusted to display the Day in English or Spanish). The Days are displayed in Black, except on Sunday, which is a contrasting Red.Minute markers run around the raised outer Chapter Ring, which is orange with a black trim, and set at an angle, which adds an impression of extra depth to the Dial.The hands are new, black-trimmed with a solid luminous fill, in the classic \'6309/7002\' style - an \'Arrowhead\' minute hand, a \'Broadsword\' hour hand, while the Seconds hand is a black needle with a lumed circle near the tip. I\'ve upgraded the luminous treatment on the hands and markers, they glow beautifully after exposure to light -while the effect won\'t last all night,it shines for a decent spell, which is a nice bonus (typical aftermarket dials don\'t generally have much \'lume\', if any).
Case Large stainless steel Case in excellent condition, with a Highly-polished finish to the sides, and a Satin-brushed finish to the upper surfaces (I\'ve had this expertly polished and rebrushed, and it has come up beautifully - I can\'t see any marks, but to cover myself there may be some tiny \'hairlines\' on the steel finish at worst, certainly no nicks or obvious scratches). The case edges are sharp and nicely defined.
Bezel offerirectional steel Bezel, good resistance, turns smoothly with 60 ratcheted \'clicks\', in excellent condition, with a standout new ceramic \'Submariner\' Bezel Insert - also in orange, printed with elapsed-time markings, and with a very unusual and effective luminous treatment.
Caseback The screwdown Caseback is in terrific condition, again expertly cleaned and gently polished, with only negligible faint marks. The manufacturer wording on the caseback is clear and well defined, and reads as follows: \"Seiko, St Steel, 6309-7290 F1, Water Resistant, 590312, A, Suwa Symbol\" plus the Seiko Wave logo in the centre.Crown Original screwdown ridged edge steel crown, offset at the 4 o\'clock position, screws down and adjusts perfectly, stem is fine. Cleaned and polished, in very good condition, some very tiny marks on the fluted sides.
Crystal New scratch-resistant Mineral Crystal, in excellent condition, with no marks of any kind (checked under magnification).
MovementSeiko 6309A 17 JewelAutomatic movement. My watchmaker hasfully serviced the movementfor me, and replaced all the gaskets. He reports it is in excellent condition, and appears original to the watch.I\'ve regulated it and it is very accurate. The Serial Number indicates the original manufacturing date as September 1985.
Strap A brand new aftermarket Seiko Z22 \'Accordion\' ridged rubber Diver\'s strap has been fitted, with a floating keeper, along with a new brushed steel buckle. I\'ve used \'Fat\' Seiko Spring Bars, which are a much better fit for these straps, and help to ensure that the case lug holes don\'t get worn and loose. Will comfortably fit a wrist size of up to 8.5\" (220mm+). Some stock photos of the strap as supplied - click if you want to enlarge:Running Condition Running, and keeping excellent time. As well as the Service, I\'ve regulated the movement, and tested it using a professional timing machine. The watch has also been \'bench-tested\' twice on an automatic winder, over at least 24 hours each time, and is accurate to better than +/-18 seconds per day max. (anything under 20 seconds a day is excellent for a vintage automatic).
Measurements Width without crown - 41.9mm (45.8mm including crown), Lug to Lug - 45.2mm, depth 13.1mm. Weight total 102 grams.
Other How cool is this? Snoopy has featured on watches before, perhaps most notably with the Omega Speedmaster \'Moonwatch\' series. The first Omega \'Snoopy Speedmaster\' appeared in 1993, but commemorated the early Apollo missions that used the Speedmaster watch (the Lunar Module on Apollo 10 in 1969 was christened \'Snoopy\' by the astronauts, as its mission was to \'snoop around\' to find a suitable landing spot for the next mission, the first moon landing by Apollo 11). NASA awarded silver \'Snoopy\' awards to employees and contractors for efforts in the Apollo missions - in particular the amazing efforts to get the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission safely back to Earth.
The dial I have fitted on this model is a custom design, so you won\'t find them anywhere else!
The large dual-finish steel Diver\'s case has been expertly rebrushed and repolished, and looks excellent.
I\'ve fitted a new ceramic and luminous \'Submariner\' Bezel Insert, which is very smart addition, and looks great set against the classic Seiko dial with the custom Snoopy design. They go together really well, and add to the iconic Scuba Diver\'s appearance. I\'ve upgraded the luminous treatment to the custom hands and markers, and they glow nicely after exposure to light, and it lasts a little while too.
Though pre-owned, this watch really is in very good condition, with only minimal signs of any use, and has clearly been maintained well. I\'ll send the winning buyer a downloadable/printable PDF File with the full Seiko instructions, which will show you how to change the day and date and maintain the watch etc.
This model is no longer in production, and certainly didn\'t look like this originally, but I\'m sure it will have cost more than my starting price - I\'m starting my sale at just 99p, with - you could get a top Seiko Automatic Scuba Divers watch, fitted with a custom Dial, Hands and Insert, expertly refurbished and professionally Serviced, at a real bargain price!
