Seth Thomas All Orginal 72 Westminster Chime Bracket Clock:
100% ORGINAL SETH THOMAS NUMBER 72 WESTMINSTER CHIME BRACKET CLOCK
Offered for sale is a high-end Seth Thomas Cathedral case Westminster Chime clock. In every area from clocks to cars, there is one that stands above the rest. If you want the Cadillac of clocks, you need to give a discerning look to this item. It is a Seth Thomas Number 72 Chime Clock and it one of the finest mantel clocks ever made. It has the high quality 113 Westminster Chime movement, considered by many to be one of the best chiming movements ever made. These movements include such options as gear reduction winding arbors and plates of heavy brass with deep cut oil cups for long life. The movement has a self-correcting device to reset the chime sequence if the clock is allowed to run completely down.
The clock plays Westminster Chimes, Mayland Chime Company is the company that built the gilded chime block and rods for Seth Thomas that went in many of their high-end clocks. In 1921, when this clock was made, it sold for $80.00, or about 3 weeks wages for the average worker. Thus, these clocks were usually only in the homes of the affluent or as a centerpiece in the bars and meeting chambers of private clubs such as Masonic meeting rooms. The finish is in nice condition with patina to give character and includes a winding key. Please note that the Cathedral cases have two subsidiary dials so that the clock speed and the chime/silence feature can be accessed from the front of the clock very easily. Case dimensions are 10.5 inches wide, 14.75 inches high and 7.25 inches deep.
I have had this clock running for several days and it keeps good time. The sound of the clock chiming sounds wonderful and the hour chime sounds like it is coming from miles away, just beautiful ! If you are into restoring back to new condition, you just found your clock. Personally, I love the clock just as it sets, the age and patina tells of a history lesson. The glass is a perfect specimen of the glass from it's time with slight flaws. The dial is GOLD in color, the picture looks like a silver dial because of my lighting. The dial and face has a slight blemish at the top as seen in the picture, nothing dramatic but it is small but visible. There is normal patina cracking in the finish but the color and finish is intact and solid. Both clock doors (front & back) seal well and are tight when closed.
This clock is a rare and a hard to find clock in original condition, by no means is this clock a one of a kind or was a low number of this style made. There just are not many left out there to purchase because owners are hard pressed to let go of this style of clock. Do your homework and search , I have found only 1 clock that sold recently, there are not many of this model out there for purchase.
PAYMENT AND SHIPPING.
People deserve to be treated fairly and to expect that their transaction will be handled as if the business was being done face to face. Read my response and you can see that I live by these words. I communicate well and keep people updated on shipping and answer questions that come up before the sale has been completed, PLEASE ask questions before offerding or making the purchase. I do not know everything but I try my best to have answers. I provide positive response for buyers as soon as payment has been received. Like any item, values can range from East to West, North to South and sometimes price can depend on just how bad a person wants a quality item.
SHIPPING & PACKAGING: I start with a high-quality box and I then put the clock in a plastic bag, wrap with bubble wrap and surround with shipping peanuts. The clock weight and key are packaged separate. The clock is VERY heavy for it's size, that is what causes the shipping costs to be what they are. Due to the vibration of shipping, no guarantee can be given but this item is covered by the Money Back Guarantee program. Should this item not run or arrive damaged, please advise ASAP because I will ship with insurance and (I) will make the insurance claim. I am placing a shipping cost of $75.00 because of the weigh, if shipping is less than $75.00, I will refund the difference to you through Pay-Pal after the sale. I am not here to make money from shipping charges. Shipping can also cause a clock to need adjusted before putting the clock in action, lets face it this clock is not a battery operated clock and was made in the early 1920s. I pride myself in excellent preparation for packing and shipment. I ship within 24 hours of payment received. I accept PayPal ONLY. Thank you for looking at my sale.
