Sheaffer Touchdown repair kit, sacs & seals for 4 pens:
$20.00

The Sheaffer \"Touchdown\" filling system was introduced in 1949, and continued in use up through the 1970s. Touchdown filling fountain pens fill by air pressure: the knob at the end of the barrel is unscrewed, the plunger (a metal tube, nearly as wide as the barrel) is pulled out, the nib is put in ink, and the plunger is pushed back into place. Depressing the plunger compresses the air in the barrel, first flattening the ink sac, then allowing it to expand and fill as the air pressure is released at the bottom of the plunger stroke.

Touchdown repair is easy, requiring only a screwdriver and a bit of care. Touchdown-filler pens use two different barrel seals (which keep the plunger-barrel junction airtight) and two different sac sizes. This kit includes two of each size of each of these components and will fit all Sheaffer Touchdown pens, including Imperials (which use the smaller sacs and seals) and Tuckaways (which use the larger).

NOTE: sacs may differ in length and appearance from photos.

Our sacs are fresh production from the Pen Sac Company, the successor operation to the White Rubber Company\'s pen sac division, which supplied the original Snorkel sacs to the Sheaffer Pen Co. (NOTE: sac length and appearance may differ from photos).

Our O-rings and point seals are also brand new. Though they look like ordinary rubber, they are made of ethylene propylene -- a synthetic compound nearly impervious to ozone, which is the prime cause of the hardening seen in old rubber pen seals. These seals should last at least twice as long as their regular rubber equivalents (just be sure to keep them away from petroleum-based oils and greases), and possibly much longer yet.

Payment

We are glad to combine shipping charges on multiple purchases, but it is vital that the proper checkout method be used. When buying more than one item, use the Add to Cart button -- NOT the Buy It Now button. View your cart when you are ready to complete the purchase, and if the total shipping charge is incorrect, do NOT pay. Instead, click the Request Total link at the top right and we will send you a corrected invoice.

Terms of Sale

We strongly believe in full and explicit description of any condition problems or flaws, and in very conservative grading. We stand behind our descriptions -- buy with confidence.
