ALMOST ANTIQUE STATUS BUT COLOURS THAT WOULD WORK IN A MODERN HOME
DescriptionA SHELLEY HARMONY BANDEDWARE HAND-PAINTED LARGE VASE IN STUNNING SHADEs OF BLUE, GREEN AND GREYDate:1925-1945

When describing Shelley the words \'quality and eye-catching\' often come to mind and this delightful vase is a good example of why that is. It is part of the much sought after Harmony Bandedware range, in which contrasting colours gradually blend into each other. The range is very evocative of the imaginative and outgoing Art Deco style of the 1920s and 1930s.

  • Harmony Ware was originally designed by Eric Slater. The bright colours were said to complement every home\'s interior colour scheme. Banded ware was deliberately made to imitate hand-thrown ribbing, although these pieces were actually made in moulds.

  • Good examples of Shelley trios and tableware are much sought after on , but large vases in excellent condition like this are even harder to find; their rims are very susceptible to damage over time i.e. chips and hairline cracks.

  • Although we suspect that most buyers/collectors will want it for display, it also remains a practical piece of tableware.

Details

  • The vase stands nearly 9.25in/23.5cm high to the top of the handle and measures approx 6.5in/16cm across its mouth.
  • The total weight is 900g.
  • The style of back stamp dates it accurately to between 1925 and 1945(image 4).

Condition

  • Although a surviving example of pre-War Shelley and at least 70 years old, it has obviously received plenty of TLC because it remains in good condition for its age with bright colouring and healthy glaze..
  • There are no chips or cracks or evidence of restoration but, typical of this pattern, the paint shows some signs of its vintage inthe form of a few tiny scratches (see images 5/6).

About Us

This COLLECTORLINKS shop is run by Gill Jefferson and husband John, who live in Yorkshire, England.

it has developed out of a shared passion for 20th Century Design and in particular the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods and the exciting so-called \'Retro\' period of the 1950s, 60s and 70s.

We are enthusiastic collectors and everything we sell has been hand-picked by ourselves at sales and car boots etc based on its appeal and interest and current trends in collectables.

Unfortunately, we cannot keep everything that takes our fancy and that is when it is listed on . It has been reassuring to discover that what we find and like has an appeal to many other people all over the World and creates a useful link for collectors.

We hope you enjoy ing with us and that you\'ll keep an eye on our shop because it is constantly changing and there will always be interesting things to see and buy!
