Shelley Bluebird Blue Bird China Teapot With Lid C. 1920-25 Perfect Condition For Sale
After noting the success of bluebird china in America, some renowned English potters began producing their own versions. This RARE teapot by Shelley of England is the perfect example!
The American pottery industry on the Ohio River Valley was still in its infancy, still experimenting with formula and design components. The English pottery industry, on the other hand, had produced treasures in pottery and porcelain for centuries and had perfected its processes. While we all cherish the pieces from here at home, we would probably have to admit that there is very little American bluebird china that matches the quality of this English version by Shelley.
Produced about the same time, c. 1920-1925, as its American counterparts, there is none of the typical crazing apparent in most of our bluebird china. The gold edging and emphasis are intact. The bluebirds and pink blossoms with green leaves and blue flowers are still amazingly colorful! The porcelain is creamy white with only a few age pits sprinkled about. It measures about 9-1/2” from handle to tip of spout and stands about 5-1/2” tall.
