This large handwoven head scarf comes from a workshop in Homs, Syria and is of the style still worn by women in rural areas.
It has been woven from silk which is very heavy. I have had it tested by someone knowledgable who confirmed it is all natural fibre but possibly the silk had been mixed with rayon. The brocading is of metallic thread. For the most part this thread is silver NOT gold as it appears in some images. There is a stripe of gold with red near the fringed ends.
The weaver has signed his name, translated for me as Bodri Ahuach.
The fringe on two sides has not been twisted as often the women do this themselves.
The scarf measures 136 cm x 135cm before fringe.
This is a splendid piece which would serve very well as home decoration, as a table cover or throw.
POstage quoted is within Australia with registration. I can post to US or Europe but please enquire re postage.
