Solid Brass Antique 1949 SS Himalaya ship\'s bell:
$699.00

Appears to be an original brass ships bell that was removed from the SS Himalaya when it was sold to and scrapped by a Taiwanese steel manufacturer in 1975. The SS Himalaya was a British cruise liner that was built after World War II by the P & O Navigation Company (then the largest ship builder in the world ) and started cruising in 1949. This was an affordable cruise ship since WW II ravaged so many people it was a healing event and welcome opportunity to dream again. She was the fastest ship in the water and was the first cruise ship to generate its own fresh water from sea water. She usually shipped out of Southampton, UK for ports in Bombay and on to Australia. She significantly cut the cruise times to those ports. This bell is 6 3/8\" diameter at the widest point, 6 3/4\" tall, and would be 7 3/4\" from a wall or deck to the widest point. Great piece of nautical history that will serve you well into the future. Remember that this bell was a \"happy\" sound for those passengers.
