Spectacular
Brass Bound Rosewood Writing Slope with Secret Drawer
This is a stunning, expertly crafted top grain rosewood writing slope
with brass binding and decorative brass inlay and top brass escutcheon with the
name 'Eliza' engraved.
The
grain and patina of this rosewood really is magnificent and unlike any other i
have seen. The wood looks to have a kind of fiery glow to it and has a
fantastic lustre especially contrasting against the brass.
The
brass handles are strong and sit flush, the top brass escutcheon is also flush,
it is missing a few thin pieces of brass stringing as well as the front brass
key hole escutcheon. These can be easily found/made and will not be expensive. I
would highly recommend having this front brass keyhole escutcheon crafted to
really set this piece off even more.
The
inside is strong and well made, the slope is lined with beautiful sky blue
velvet and the secret drawer works well and in very good condition.
There is
a crack on the inside base as can be seen in the last picture, this is nothing
to worry about and not detrimental to the piece.
In good,
authentic condition with markings commensurate with age.
A spectacular
looking, luxurious, very well made/valuable, highly collectable example.
