This is an amazing lens,,, massive (2.5lbs!) and super fast 135mm F1.8 monster made by Yoshida Industries for Spiratone c1975. Can produce wonderful results on a full-frame body but I think this shines even more on APS-C cameras where it becomes an astonishing 200mm F1.8.Comes in the T screw mount so it can be adapted to almost any digital system. Also included is an T-mount -Canon FD adapter and a Spiratone 2X tele extender. This is the original 135mm F1.8 ,, it is NOT the same as the later, more common, Mitake, Sigma, Pentax & Tokina 135mm 1.8 lenses.
This lens provides a FOV/Speed combination like nothing I\'ve ever used. It is dreamy wide open but sharpens up quickly and is nice and sharp by F5.6,, not that you\'d want to shoot landscapes with this or anything. What surprised me the most was the performance with the Spiratone 2X extender,,, where it effectively became a 400mm F3.5,,, there was a lot of Chromatic Aberration in the high-contrast areas (easily fixed in Lightroom/Photoshop) but the images, to my eye, were just as sharp as they were without the extender,, I\'ve never seen that before, as these old tele-extenders are usually crap..
Condition is good overall,,, optics are huge and clear,,, no scratches or coating wear,,,, some minor dust inside as you would expect, but certainly nothing that will affect your photos. Aperture is snappy and oil-free. Focuses a bit past infinity,, which is actually pretty handy,,, the lens makes a hard stop at the infinity marker but infinity has already come and gone by then,, not sure why it does this as the MFD at the other hard-stop seems correct at about 6 feet. There is wear to the body as pictured just from normal use over the years. The Focus and Aperture rings are kinda stiff but work just fine,,,, if I was keeping this lens (and I thought hard about doing so), I would have it CLA\'d just to loosen up the rings a bit. Tele extender and FD adapter are like new. Comes with rear cap and a beat-up old 82mm skylight filter that I have been using as a front cap.
Check out my other itemsfor the correct 82mm Spiratone metal hood that goes to this lens,,, cos yes,, glass this big is gonna flare!______________My lens speech:
This, like the majority of the of lenses I sell, is an old manual focus lens from the time when 35mm Film SLR\'s ruled the earth. Have realistic expectations if you are a newcomer to using old lenses - You will NOT get the eyeball-searing wide-open sharpness and contrast that you get with modern autofocus lenses. I\'m not kidding,,, there are old Zeiss lenses on right now that cost thousands of dollars that can be (easily) out-resolved by the nasty plastic Canon 50mm that you can get for $100 at Best Buy.
What we CAN get out of these dinosaur lenses, with proper use, is fantastic old-school \'character\' in your photos and a beautiful cinematic feel to your video.Sharpness is not everything. :)
