Staffordshire Pearlware Drainer ~ Fishermen W Nets ~ Dark Blue Transferware 1820 For Sale
English Staffordshire Pearlware Dark Blue Transferware Platter Drainer c1820
~ Robert Hamilton ~ Fishermen with Nets Pattern ~
11 1/2" long by 8" wide ~ about 1" deep
Examples with this pattern are marked HAMILTON in Coysh for Robert Hamilton of Stoke active 1811-1826. The drainer here doesn't give any full border of flowers which would have been seen on the drainer it sat in. This is a nice clean transfer impression with the three men and the dog working to bring in fish with an impressive domed building in the background.
In excellent condition; there is a small chip on the right edge (pictured below) which was colored in a long time ago and now has a soft patina which helps blend it into the scene rather well and makes it less noticeable. Otherwise, the surface of this piece meant to drain and cut roasts on was never used any barely shows and usage marks, the glaze is glossy and very good.
