Staffordshire Pink Lustre ~ Blk Rural Scenes ~ Green Ground Large Jug C1820 Nr For Sale
A Large Unusual Staffordshire Pearlware Pink Lustre Black Transferware Pitcher circa 1820
~ 2 Fine Transfer Scenes ~ Peasant Family Cooking ~ Traveler with Donkey and Horse ~
About 7" high ~ about 10" from spout to handle
An early English Staffordshire or Sunderland large ovoid jug or pitcher with wide band of brushed pink lustre glaze and a brownish green or pea green ground, with two very fine pastoral transfers. These may be bat printed transfers as they have very fine detail and an almost raised quality to the printing.
It looks lovely on display; the pink lustre is very shiny and not much wear except around the spout and rim. The spout has a small chip under it.
There is a long x shape crack or hairline through the cooking scene and the bottom has some glaze loss and a crack around one corners edge but this doesn't show on display, see the pics of the inside.
Displays very well but sold as found.
The handle is in very good condition. The green ground has wear in spots, especially around the foot.
The inside bottom has a glazed over staple or nail which I think is a factory fix to a crack in the bottom.
Notice the hairlines come up to the rim although not terribly visible from the outside on display.
Thanks
