JOHN HORNBEK is an Anglo artist who has long been inspired by the Native American communities around him. He is married to a Navajo woman who comes from a family of jewelers. Sylvia Adakai is the sister of famous jewelry artist Ray Adakai and there son Luke is learning to make jewelry as well. This however was not where John first got inspired. He got his start as a bench caster for PRESTON MONONGYE to whom he credits with saving his life. For over three years John assisted Preston by casting his pieces in trade for roof over his head and three meals a day. You can see strong similarities when comparing their work probably because they both really learned the technique together.
After leaving Preston, John began importing Spiney Oyster and has become one of the largest distributors. This has allowed him to be choosy and used only the best NATURAL Spiny Oyster Shell and Mediterranean Coral in the jewelry he produced. That is CLEAR in this SENSATIONAL bracelet!
