Interesting Edwardian British Colonial heavy grade sterling silver half-fluted goblet hallmarked Sheffield 1902 by James Dixon & Sons Ltd. The goblet has been engraved as a rifle shooting trophy by the 12th Royal Lancers in India in 1907 and is engraved:
\"SIRHIND RIFLE MEETING OFFICERS LLOYD LINDSAY. WON BY XII ROYAL LANCERS AMBALA MARCH 07\". The obverse is engraved with the names of the winning team:
\"TEAM. LT. COLONEL J.C.B. EASTWOOD LIEUT. C.M. TRUMAN \" H.C. MAYDON \" C.E. BRYANT
Note: I have done a little research on the above names and it appears all went on to have a distinguished military career with the 12th Royal Lancers.
Weight: 264.8 gm. Height: 200 mm. Diameter of rim: 95 mm. Diameter of base: 90 mm. Hall Mark: Sheffield 1902. Maker\'s Mark: James Dixon & Sons Ltd. Retailer: Bechtler, Allahabad (stamped on base).
12th Royal Lancers: The 12th (Prince of Wales\'s) Royal Lancers was a cavalry regiment of the British Army first formed in 1715 and survived until 1960 when it was amalgamated with the 9th Queens Royal Lancers to form the 9th/12th Royal Lancers (Prince of Wales\'s).
Sirhind: Sirhind-Fategarh is a city in Fategarh Sahib district in the Indian State of Punjab with a population of 60,852.
Ambala: Ambala is a city in the Ambala district in the State of Haryana, India located on the border with the State of Punjab. Its population is 207,934.
