Vintage Sterling Silver QEII Coronation Thimble
English * Hallmarked 1952
This well known sterling thimble was issued to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1952. The band has English sterling hallmarks for Birmingham 1952 with the maker's mark for James Swann & Son. The applied band has the coronation coach with horses and a trumpeting angel flying overhead. Also shown are Buckingham Palace, the Tower Bridge and the Queen's cypher surrounded by a rose (England), daffodil (Wales), thistle (Scotland) and shamrocks (Ireland).
about an American size 10 (16.5 mm diameter opening). The condition is
outstanding, crisp and in round with no holes, needling or other
damage. I don't think it's
ever been used. One
like this is
shown on p. 163 of Bridget McConnel's book The Story of the Thimble.
