A solid silver and silver gilt three light candelabra -a rare and exuberant example of a candelabra centrepiece by reknowned silversmith Stuart Devlin. Devlin\'s combinations of texture and contrasts, of flat with curved, and detailed against polished, made him an innovator in hollowware and tableware whose influence is still being felt today.

Originally from Australia, and although most would not know that they have handled Devlin\'s designs nearly every day (he designed Australia\'s first decimal coinage and went on to design coins and medals for 36 other countries), he rose to global recognition in London in the late sixties. This centrepiece is a trefoil shape rising up to staggered heights for detachable gilt wire spheres that act as shades, and with panels of inverted textured gilt silver, mounted between curved polished planes. This is the hand constructed version where each of the shades is created by soldering individual wires together in a random pattern - therefore each sphere is unique in shape. Later these items werecreated with castversions, which this is not.
