You are offerding on the Steuben crystal and sterling silver Arctic Fisherman. This was one of the first three pieces in James Houston's seven Arctic Series sculptures. This crystal block is cut to simulate the ice flow and Inuk life in the Arctic. The Eskimo fisherman is cast from sterling silver, and holds his spear poised to strike. His catch is the Arctic Char, an icy water fish native to the Arctic Circle and related to the salmon and trout. The char are brought to life by using one of the most demanding forms of glass art, copper wheel engraving. Standing 6-1/2 inches tall, and signed by Steuben inside the large bubble of the base, this amazing artwork has always been a beloved centerpiece in my family's private Steuben collection.
