He has been all hand formed by Steuben\'s Master Glass Makers, with the detail and clarity that only Steuben could ever produce.

Every Steuben piece is slightly different as all were made by hand.

History of Steuben Dating back to the 1800\'s

Frederick Carder Founded Steuben in Corning New York in 1903. He was an English glassmaker who designed colored glass in the Art Noveau style. Later Corning Incorporated acquired the company in 1918. When Arthur Houghton, Jr. became president of Steuben, he reorganized the company dedicating it to producing clear, colorless, highly reflective crystal that was developed by Corning researchers. Some of the most prestigious museums in the world have Steuben in their permanent collections. Since the president and Mrs. Harry Truman sent Steuben as a wedding Gift to HRH Princess Elizabeth of Great Britain in 1947, Steuben has been used as a gift of state by every U.S. president.

Steuben Glass Works was an American Art Glass manufacturer, founded in the summer of 1903 by Frederick Carer and Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, NY which is in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived. Hawkes was the owner of the largest cut glass firm then operating in Corning. Carder was an Englishman (born 18 September 1863) who had many years\' experience designing glass for Stevens and Williams in England. Hawkes purchased the glass blanks for his cutting shop from many sources and eventually wanted to start a factory to make the blanks himself. Hawkes convinced Carder to come to Corning and manage such a factory. Carder, who had been passed over for promotion at Stevens and Williams, consented to do so.

In July 2008, Steuben was sold by Corning Incorporated for an undisclosed price to the Schottenstein Stores Corp. which also owns 51% of Retail Ventures, a holding company for DSW, Filene\'s Basement, and formerly Value City Department Stores; Value City Furniture, which changed its name to American Signature Furniture; 15% of American Eagle Outfitters, retail liquidator SB Capital Group, some 50 shopping centers, and 5 factories producing its shoes, furniture and crystal.

Steuben Glass will only grow in value as this world class glass making technique is no longer in existence and is very coveted by fine glass collectors World Wide.

We no longer offer international shipping, unless its through s Global Shipping Program, as cannot offer any seller protection on international cases unless sent to their US Shipping Center, then sent out to the international company. If we were to offer our own international shipping this would mean that an international buyer can keep an item and get a refund for that item all while the seller has no recourse. Also, please remember that old glass and porcelain were not manufactured with the sophisticated technology that we have today, therefore there may be glaze pops, black pin dots, and minor factory flaws, and will be pointed out either in photo or print. Approximate sizes are always included in the description. Please examine the photos carefully; as they are to be considered part of the description, and read the description and ask all questions before offerding.
