The Still-Life table stand supports a grid assembly in the up-right
position so you can draw or paint landscapes, objects, and portraits realistically.
The Still-life table stand is a system that
utilizes the grid method which makes it easier to see shape relationships and
draw or paint with precision. The grid assembly is comprised of (2) plexi -glass
sheets which secure Bornowski's Grid
inside. The grid assembly can be disassembled
to remove Bornowski’s Grid and used over any
flat image like a photograph, print, drawing etc. Once you are ready to draw or paint the grid assembly
can be turned for maximum affect to the portrait or landscape position. And to
change the grid position simply lift it off the two legs and placing it back in
the new position. The still-life stand is also compact and convenient to fulfill the grid with any small or large image
by simply moving it back or up close. Once you are done using the Still-life
table stand you can disassemble it and store it in a small place or carry it in
a backpack while traveling. See grid method using grid.
Bornowski’s Transparent Grid that is easy to use over and
over again and it will teach you how to see proportion and alignment two of the
biggest problems associated with getting the drawing or painting right. You can
position
it over any photo, drawing or any flat image and instantly you have a
grid structure to draw or paint any subject realistically. The grid will
correct inadequate drawing practices allow you to copy images, formulate
compositions and perspective. It is a system to orientate you to the support, section
the subject into understandable parts, draw shape connections and positive
negative shapes proportionately. Once you start using the grid you will find
your drawing will be more accurate. Mentally this is an important step. The
grid will teach you how to see according to the true nature of things and train
you to see the drawing correctly and eventually after several drawings in this
manner you will no longer need the grid. Costeffectiveso you can purchase
more than one grid to cover large areas or have multiple grid structures for
each image, drawing etc.
Measuring: Is one of
the main characteristics of Bornowski’s transparent grid and is quick to
determine distance between two or more points without having to an extra
measuring device and drawing lines you have to erase. It is created to a 1:1
ration or can be thought of as 1 inch or 2.54 centimeters squares. On the upper right side there is 10.5
millimeters scale. The film can be moved to any position as a quick way to
measure horizontal and vertical distance and the millimeters scale accurate
detail. Visually you can quickly
determine a measurement between two points on a photograph and then check your
work to see if it is the same. Each square can be divided into fractions like ½
¼ and so on.
Proportion: is one of
the main problems which occurs often when creating a realistic drawing or
painting. Find a key shape in your
subject. If you are using the Still-life table stand, look though the grid and
decide which shape is a reasonable size to compare to all the other
shapes. If you are using the Transparent
grid on a photograph lay it flat on the reference image and move it around to
align the edges of a square on a key shape.
Then measure visually vertically and horizontally. This measurement is
the standard to determine your proportions.
For example I have a photograph of a cat. In the photograph one eye fits
within one square. To find the width of the head I will measure and determine
it equals 7 eyes or 7 squares in the photograph. So in my drawing or painting I know I need 7
squares to for the width of the head.
This method can be used for any subject or any shape.
Enlarging or reducing:
The grid is a good way to accurately enlarge or reduce a realistic
drawing. For example, the artist may want to create a mural from a photograph. The
transparent grid is to the scale of one-inch and the mural grid equals one
foot. So on the wall the grid is drawn in one-foot squares. The formula 1 inch
= 1 foot. The same is true when reducing. For example 1 inch on the transparent
grid can equal ½ inch grid on the support. Everything is copied from the
transparent grid as it is in the square to the new grid size.
Alignment: This is
another problem most face when creating a sense of space and perspective. Part of this idea again has to do with proportion
but also how shapes are aligned. If the alignment is off then space and
perspective will appear wrong. In a simple maneuver move the transparent grid
to any location on the photograph. If you are using the Still-Life table stand
move the whole stand. Align any two
points using the vertical or horizontal lines. For example, in the photograph of the cat I align a grid
line on the inside corner of the left eye. Keeping the grid parallel to the edge of the
photograph I see where the line aligns with the mouth. I then duplicate this alignment in my
painting or drawing again making sure this is measurement is parallel to the
edge of the support. Use this method to check the alignment of all parts of
your composition.
These are digital books costing regularly $4.00 each and you download them quickly. I know some of you would rather have a hard copy however consider the advantages to having this important information in a digital format. The books have been tested in art class rooms over a 30 years period and contains professional experience that are invaluable. One of the most important element to learning how to draw is having good large reference images. In a digital format you have the ability to print illustrations to a size that is larger than most books. Imagine blowing up an illustration that fills the page so you can see what to do next. Having an illustration that size can give you a 1:1 experience which is much better than trying to hold a book open while you draw and see the small illustration. And you can store it all on a pen drive and print it over and over again.
And these books are on special too and if you want extras, like grids, charts, pencils and erasers you only pay $0.95 more when you buy the special sets shipped free anywhere in the USA and Europe. This is a real bargain if you consider that most of the extras that retail for $1.50 - $1.75 and you can't beat free shipping, you know it can be costly . Ok, now that the money is out of the way, the real values is the information in these books. So please review the main points below.
The Grid Book(digital) is full of information about the grid method
and how to draw a child’s portrait using conte crayon. You also learn about the
different kinds of grids, Bornowski ’s
Transparent Gr id, Creating the straight-line
Grid, perspective, composition and checking method. Step by step you will learn
how to draw a child’s portrait using Conte Crayon Techniques in easy to understand
text and with many illustrations. The nice thing about this book you can down load the full version in seconds
and begin reading how to use the grid method. In this digital format you will
be able to print many copies of a particular page, enlarge details, and practice
by working directly on the printed page. And depending on your printer you can make
the reference image the same size as the drawing or painting and compare both same size for better results. It makes
learning much easier.
